Sons Of God

I was reading the Gospel of Mark this morning, and I got to the part where it says: And the foul spirits, whenever they saw Him, threw themselves down at His feet, screaming out: “You are the Son of God.” (Mark 3:11-Weymouth) and immediately this thought came to me: should it not be the same way for us? Or at least similar in some fashion? Are WE not sons of God, as well?

[Well, you might be thinking, He was THE Son (capital “S”) of God. All that He did was because He was the Son of God (capital “S”). I’m sorry to burst your (doctrinal) bubble, but that is woefully not true, however I am not going to go into detail on that subject here because that would be yet another blog in and of itself.]

The scriptures also call US sons of God, do they not?

John 1:12-13 – But all who have received Him, to them–that is, to those who trust in His name–He has given the privilege of becoming children of God; who were begotten as such not by human descent, nor through an impulse of their own nature, nor through the will of a human father, but from God. (Weymouth)

1 John 3:1 – Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not. (KJV)

Jesus came to be the seed that died so that it could bring forth fruit – meaning, that MORE sons could be birthed through His death, burial and resurrection. He was the only one that could do that, however He didn’t do it as a son of God, but He did it as the Son of Man. In the Gospels, Jesus refers to Himself as the “Son of Man” more often than the “Son of God.” The majority of the time that He is called the Son of God in the Gospels it is spoken by men and demons. As a matter of fact, the first time He is called the Son of God is by Satan when Jesus is in the wilderness for 40 days.

If you are THE SON OF GOD, THEN do this…”

The only time Jesus uses the term “Son of God” is in the Gospel of John (John 3:18; 5:25; 9:35; 10:36; 11:4).

There are many sons of God but there could only be one Son of man. See He had to become flesh for the redemption of mankind, and being the Son of God alone wasn’t enough to accomplish that because He was ALWAYS the Son of God. It was only when He was incarnated in the flesh, took on human form, that He then became the Son Of Man for the purpose of OUR redemption. In order to “buy us back” and purchase our freedom, the ransom required was the sacrifice of Perfect Flesh, and only He could fulfill it and He did it as the Son of Man.

Think of it this way:

The Son of God came down to become a man (and the Son of Man) so that man could “ascend up” and become sons of God.

Ephesians 2:6 – He raised us up with Christ the exalted One, and we ascended with him into the glorious perfection and authority of the heavenly realm, for we are now co-seated as one with Christ! (TPT)

We are now seated WITH JESUS! Where is Jesus seated? At the right hand of God. We’ve been adopted and born-again as sons in the Son and all that He is we are to be. And we are, spiritually speaking. But that doesn’t mean it should not be a manifested reality in our lives (see opening statement about demons reactions to Jesus).

All that He is, we are…NOW. (1 John 4:17B)

All that Jesus did we are to do, and even greater things! (John 14:12)

We are the dwelling place of the living God Himself! (1 Corinthians 6:19; 2 Corinthians 6:16)

So tell me, if all these things are true, why are we not living like it? I know you may have asked yourself the same question.

The scriptures say I’m healed, but…

I’ve quoted all the verses but…

*Add your statement of lack and doubt here*

Here is one of the the most important things you will ever need to know:

THESE TRUTHS (PROMISES) OF GOD ABOUT WHO WE ARE OR WHAT WE HAVE WILL NOT TRULY MANIFEST IN OUR LIVES WITHOUT REVELATORY KNOWLEDGE, TRUST, OBEDIENCE AND/OR ACTION.

These things are not an AUTOMATIC just because the Word says it to be so. Truth only manifests into reality as we take it, believe it and act on it but it can not be done based on feelings, emotions, circumstances or experience! We pull it out from within us because of what we already have within us (regeneration, new birth, Holy Spirit indwelling us but also BAPTISM of Holy Spirit – endued with power from on high). We have all we will ever need now that we are His, and He dwells within us. IT IS CHRIST IN US, THE HOPE OF GLORY.

We won’t walk or talk like Jesus unless we get to know Him, have an intimate relationship with the Word Himself. The word won’t just manifest in our lives the way it should just because we speak it flippantly or superstitiously or by rote, that then becomes and idol and a work. No, the Word must be KNOWN and believed and by believed I mean more than just the mental assent the majority of people mistake for actual honest-to-goodness FAITH.

The body spends so much time confessing the Word in HOPES that it will work but living and acting opposite of what they are speaking. How do you think that is working out for you? James called this double-mindedness and said those people will be unable to receive the things that God has already given.

Our beliefs are lived out. Actions speak louder than words as the saying goes. If we truly believed we were sons, lived our relationship with God the Father just that way, received from Him all that He has bestowed upon us as His sons, the inheritance of grace, love, mercy, deliverance, freedom, liberty, protection, provision, total bodily healing (as well as the capability to walk in divine health), and the ability to do all that Jesus did, would our lives not look so much different than they do? Imagine how that would look in your every day life, and not just for yourself and your benefit, but to be like Jesus to benefit others and SET THEM FREE. To have demons fall down before you because you know who you are and WHOSE you are…A son of God with the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven in your hands to set the captives free…to heal the sick, raise the dead. To love, to give, to be an example to others as an inspiration so that they may want what you have…

THIS, my friends, is what “preaching the gospel” really is. Not just talking the talking, but walking and living it out as Jesus did.

1 Corinthians 4:20 – For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

Can you picture it?

Now, you go and do….(Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15-20)

Blessings,

Miranda

As a final note, I cannot express enough the absolute crucial importance of each and every believer cultivating for themselves a personal, INTIMATE relationship with God, Jesus and Holy Spirit. Only through intimacy can anything be conceived and birthed.
